Features compared
A good two thirds of all vacuum grippers are sold without a brand name. This comparison puts 165 branded units up against 354 unbranded units. Any model with a recognizable brand name counts as branded, regardless of whether the brand comes from China, Europe or the USA. The data shows no difference in load capacity, but there are differences in price and features.
The difference at a glance
- Price: Branded units cost a median of €76, unbranded units €68. The premium for the name is around €8.
- Load capacity: Both groups have a median rating of 200 kg, and the strongest unit in each is rated at 500 kg.
- Value for money: Per €100, branded units deliver 335 kg and unbranded units 330 kg, practically the same.
- Battery: Branded units more often have a removable battery (50% versus 36%), unbranded units more often USB-C (16% versus 10%).
- Manufacturing: All unbranded units are made in China, compared with 85% of branded units.
What the data shows
The price gap is smaller than often assumed. At the median, only €8 separates the two groups, and on average it is €20 (€103 versus €83). The wider gap in the averages comes from a handful of expensive branded specialty units. At the lower end, unbranded units are cheaper: they start at €12, branded units at €22. At the top, branded units go up to €500, unbranded units up to €407.
On load capacity, the groups are identical. Median 200 kg, maximum 500 kg, minimum 30 kg and 27 kg. The strongest branded unit, a 3-in-1 vacuum gripper from YEARTOP with vibration, costs €249. The strongest unbranded unit, an electric vacuum lifter with a digital display, is also rated at 500 kg and costs €46. On load capacity per euro, too, both sides are level at 335 kg and 330 kg per €100. According to the data, then, a brand name does not bring a higher load capacity rating.
The differences show up in the features. Branded units rely more on the removable battery system (50% of electric models), the digital display (70%) and automatic re-pump (31%). For unbranded units, these figures are 36%, 63% and 26%. Unbranded units, on the other hand, more often have a built-in battery (34% versus 25%) and more often charge via USB-C. Narrow designs are twice as common among unbranded units, at 12%, as among branded ones. Seals, vibration functions and LED indicators are distributed similarly in both groups.
The share of twin packs stands out: 17% of branded offers are sets, compared with 7% of unbranded ones. Accordingly, the cheapest branded units are twin packs, for example from AUCOGIA at €22 per unit. The most frequently represented brands are SEESII, BIHUI, GRABO, Procci, VEVOR and Raizi. A good 70% of branded units, 118 of 165, come from Chinese brands. They are joined by, among others, 16 models from European brands, 10 models from US brands and 9 models from GRABO in Israel. The groups hardly differ in design: oval suction plates account for 53% and 50%, round pads for 41% and 38%.
What a brand name means
A large share of gripsters is sold as identical hardware under different names or with no brand at all. The same housings, suction plates and indicators then appear at different prices. The guide Spotting identical gripsters shows how to recognize these units, and the overview Identical models lists specific groups.
A brand name is therefore mainly a means of identification. A named model can be reordered specifically, spare batteries and seals can be matched unambiguously, and reviews refer to a clearly defined unit. With unbranded units, by contrast, matching often depends on dimensions and photos. The guide Caring for and replacing seals explains how to replace the seal.
Strengths of branded units
- Removable battery on 50% of electric models, often with a spare battery in the set
- Digital display on 70%, automatic re-pump on 31%
- Twin packs in 17% of offers
- A clear model name makes reordering and finding spare parts easier
- Wider range of specialty units in the upper price segment
Branded units play to their strengths above all when a business runs several units. Batteries and chargers from one series are interchangeable, and a failed unit can be replaced with the same model without any change in handling or display.
Strengths of unbranded units
- Lowest entry price, from €12, median €68
- Same load capacity ratings as branded units: median 200 kg, up to 500 kg
- USB-C charging on 16% of electric models
- Largest selection, with 354 models, including more narrow designs
- Often identical hardware to branded units, but cheaper
If you have clearly defined needs, an unbranded vacuum lifter, often called a gripster in the trade, is an economical choice. If you want to source batteries, charger and spare parts from one supplier over the long term, a named model will serve you better.
Which type for which job?
| Situation | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Occasional use, small budget | Unbranded |
| Regular use with a removable battery system | Branded unit |
| USB-C charging preferred | Either, slightly more common unbranded |
| Two lifters for large formats | Twin pack, more often branded |
| Reordering and spare parts important | Branded unit |
Whatever the name, it pays to look at the features: the vacuum indicator, seal, battery type and what is included decide how well a unit works in practice more than the logo does. The Buying guide sums up the key points, and the guide Battery and charging explains the battery systems. The comparison China vs. Europe shows how the brand's origin plays out.
Conclusion
A brand name costs around €8 more at the median and brings no higher load capacity rating. In return, branded units more often have a removable battery, a digital display and automatic re-pump, and are more often sold as twin packs. Unbranded units score with the lowest entry price, more frequent USB-C and the largest selection. If you pay close attention to the features, you will find good units in both groups, and a brand name mainly makes reordering and finding spare parts easier.
Frequently asked questions
Are branded vacuum grippers stronger than unbranded units?
Not according to the manufacturer's ratings. Both groups have a median of 200 kg, and the strongest unit in each is rated at 500 kg. Per €100, too, the values are practically the same, at 335 kg and 330 kg.
How much does the brand name cost?
Branded units cost a median of €76, unbranded units €68. The gap is therefore around €8. On average it is €20, because expensive specialty units more often carry a brand name.
Are branded units made somewhere else?
Usually not. 85% of branded units and all unbranded units are made in China. Many brands have their products made there, even if they are based in another country.
What should I look for in an unbranded gripster?
Check the load capacity rating, the type of vacuum indicator, the seal material, the battery type and what is included. Before first use, a test run with a light panel is a good idea, during which you watch how stable the vacuum stays.
