Price distribution
Price and capacity
This comparison sets two opposites against each other: 472 vacuum lifters from Chinese brands and four models from Montolit and Battipav from Italy. On price, drive and place of manufacture, the two origins are far apart.
Prices
Chinese brands cost a median of €66, Italian brands €138, a little over twice as much. The averages are €84 versus €152. The range in China runs from €12 to €472, among Italian brands from €52 to €278. The cheapest Italian unit is the electric Battipav Solleva for €52, the most expensive the Montolit GECONE with removable battery for €278.
Load capacity and features
Chinese models carry a median of 200 kg and reach up to 500 kg. Among Italian brands, only the Montolit Geco states a load capacity, 125 kg for €195. Per €100 of purchase price that gives 64 kg, compared with a median of 337 kg for Chinese brands. On this measure, that is the largest gap between any two countries of origin.
The two camps differ markedly in drive: 94% of Chinese models are electric, compared with half among Italian brands. The other half work manually, one of them with a vacuum gauge. No Italian listing states a digital display, which is fitted to 66% of Chinese units, nor USB-C, automatic re-pump or vibration function. The seal is always rubber on Italian brands, and on 85% of Chinese ones. Round suction pads account for 75% versus 38%.
Manufacturing
This is where the biggest difference lies: 471 of the 472 Chinese listings are made in China, and three of the four Italian listings in Italy. No Italian model names China as the country of manufacture.
Verdict
If you want as much load capacity and as many features as possible for little money, choose a Chinese brand. Italian brands appeal to buyers who value manufacturing in the brand's home country and manual vacuum grippers without a battery, albeit from a small range of four models. For a gripster with a hand pump, Manual gripsters is worth a look. More details: China and Italy.
