What to look for

• The material decides: Porcelain stoneware patio slabs are airtight and hold well. Concrete pavers and rough natural stone slabs draw in air, and automatic re-pump can only help so much here.
• Sand and grit: Grains under the sealing lip prevent a tight vacuum and damage the seal. Sweep the slab before attaching the lifter.
• Set down safely: Lay slabs flat and in a controlled way into the bed, without releasing the gripster abruptly.
