Gripsters for natural stone and granite

Natural stone such as granite, marble or slate is heavy, and how airtight it is depends on the surface. The database lists 318 vacuum lifters for natural stone. Prices per unit range from €12 to €500, with €68 being typical. Typical load capacity is 220 kg, with a peak of 500 kg; per €100 you typically get 333 kg. 92% are electric. Among the battery-powered units, 38% have a removable battery, 34% a built-in battery and 30% automatic re-pump. 69% have a digital display, 87% a rubber seal and 11% foam. 56% are oval and 40% round.

What to look for

• Calculate the weight: Granite weighs around 2.7 t per cubic meter. A 3 cm thick worktop measuring 200 x 60 cm therefore tips the scales at just under 100 kg. Plan with a safety factor.
• Check the surface: Polished stone is airtight and holds well. Flamed, brushed or open-pored surfaces draw in air; here, automatic re-pump or a foam seal helps.
• Several gripsters: Lift long slabs with two or more gripsters so they do not break.
• In practice: Transport, cutouts and installation are covered in Moving natural stone and worktops; which surfaces hold is shown in the surface guide.
